Creativity and My Take.

elle n mommy 010
Okay, we shall attempt to resurrect this dead site. Sometimes I come here to check on things and I half expect it to be gone.

I
love when ya`ll leave me comments-- so thank you. I always read them,
and even if I don`t always know who you are, I do try to figure out if
I know you. Please don`t stop-- it gets pretty boring throwing up
pictures and mumbo jumbo if there isn`t YOU to interact with . :) I
know that I have a lot less readers since I left xanga-- sometimes I
really miss the community there.

But I do like being here too.
I think every time I read a comment from a  new reader I am always
amazed that anyone ever finds me out here "in the sticks" ha.

new house 091-1
Here
is my newest edition of Country Living. The girls were in the kiddie
pool today (ok, so it would be more accurate to say Laila was in the
stroller with her sunshade on) ,and I FINALLY, after many days found
some time to looky through it.

WOW, OH, WOW-- would I  ever love to work there or some how absorb all their cool, cool ideas!

I
am such a magazine nerd. If I get ahold of one that I like, it might
take me hours to page through it and get all the "info" I want from it.
I daydream a lot too. How do you read magazines? And which ones do you
like?

new house 092-1
Here
was a spread I really loved. Sometimes I kinda dream about having a
bare bones house to start all over with and just play with ideas all
day.

I used to feel really guilty because I didn`t feel
spiritual with my gift. I don`t think there is anything I love more--
than "trying" to take something ugly or dirty and making something of
it. I love to use my hands and mind to create things.

The other day G came home from work, and literally it looked like someone had taken our house and dumped it upside down.

And I mean literally. I don`t even think supper was made.

I told him matter of factly, "Sorry Galen, I was making stuff and I just can`t do that and keep house too".

I
feel so blessed that I have a husband that doesn`t care, "gets me" AND,
that even appreciates this about me. But anyways, I often feel shallow
or afraid that my love for beautiful or cool things is materialistic.
Which is funny because at the same time, I often feel really close to
God when I work on stuff.

Almost like... WORSHIP...

And
then one day I realized God likes to do the same stuff I do! He created
this world out of nothing-- and guess what! He sure made it beautiful
too, and I know it gave him pleasure. This was such a special thought
to me. I think of it so much now.

I can just picture the way
He admired the lush GREEN of the tall trees, and how it off set the
deep REDS and ORANGES of the flowers. All nestled under the canopy of a
wide open bright BLUE sky.

It`s just so cool. Most people are
good at singing and they worship when they do it. Honestly, I can`t
sing worth a hoot and so when I do,  it`s not even a little bit fun for me. It`s nice to know that God is creative, and He gives us gifts to praise Him with, that WE enjoy too.

new house 093-1
You
can`t really see it, but on the left side there is a little, airy,
flowered tent set up with all kinds of fun, grass green, pillows and
gear scattered around. Adorable!

Sigh. Do people really live like that? Everything matching and cute and darling?

Oh well, it`s fun to feast the eyes on anyways.

And
on the right, if you look really close-- that white/green plaque that
says, "LAKE" with the hand pointing? Well, I bet one could make that--
with just right stencils, the right paint and the right board. But I
don`t have the stuff or the time so... yeah, possibly never.

new house 081-1
I like to snap pictures of cool stuff I see or that I see every day at home. Here is like a month`s worth of built up photos.

This is our room. I love my hall tree. Fun to keep all my favorite things on it.

new house 082-1
I bought this lovely green plate for 25 cents last week at a garage sale. I SO LOVE IT!

new house 083-1
This little pot sits on my windowsill and smiles at me everyday.

new house 072-1
I got those little brown, beaded coasters at Pier 1 the other day for $3! They had been like 20 something...

The B & W pictures remind us of how much we have aged...

new house 067-1
I
love flower pins and kind of collect them. I can`t get up enough guts
to actually WEAR them-- but I love them on purses and bags and on my
dresser...!

new house 080-1
My favorite "mommy would still love to be cool and not carry a real diaper bag" bag. :)

new house 070-1
I was going to wear this to church this morning but G said it was "too much".

The
fashion world (and Providence church) will never know what they missed
out on, when G stifled Jenny`s love for huge, fluffy flower pins.

Sigh.

new house 068-1
The blur editing makes it look romantic, don`t you think.. ha

new house 086-1
It rained a lot here, all my rugs got muddy and wet.

I saw enough beauty in them drying here to use this as a picture post?? I guess.

new house 075-1
I WASHED MY WINDOWS ON FRIDAY. Is pretty fun standing at the kitchen sink now. ,

I
talked to a sweet mother of 3 once, that told me windows were "her
obsession" and that she washes her every week. (I understood
COMPLETELY, because vacuuming is my mine) But ever since that, I have
felt some guilt because honestly, I bet I wash my windows once a
year...

If there was anything I could change about myself it would be that I wasn`t so lazy with window washing... (for starters).

new house 074-1
I wired this gorgeous flower to a washcloth caddy to hold our incoming mail.

It makes me happier than how we used to do it-- a big stack of scattered mail all over my kitchen counter.

new house 088-1
Flowers are doing well. I pretty much just look at them whenever I run out the door in passing.

The rain waters them and they dead-head themselves... Life is good.

new house 090-1
Love this summer look out the back door.

new house 009-1
I am bonkers, nuts for anything with that nautical,/globe/map look. Pottery Barn does it a lot.

new house 010-1
And I was growing more and more NOT so fond of this huge picture that hung in our room for years now.

Back when I was wealthier-- I used up all of my working gift cards and saved up for this big, BIG geranium themed picture.

Proud I was indeed.

new house 012-1
So
I brought down a real, crumpled map down from the attic, ironed it, and
decided to cut away at the back of this geranium picture-- to see if I
could somehow open it up, and frame something else with it.

Like say, maybe, this map?! I am serious.

I
took a few tools to let me get into this picture. They really love to
keep things complicated at P Graham Dunn (guessing here)-- and they
apparently would like to keep the picture they assembled-- together
FOREVER.

But I outsmarted them. With a lot of sweat, these strong hands, and a few bad words in my head that I did not say.

new house 065-1
This is how it looks. I would have said at first, that it is TOTALLY what I dreamed of!

But
then... G said it should be a map of the world and not a map of the
USA, and that it looks like it belongs in a schoolhouse.

That ruined it a bit for me, a little.

BUT I AM PLUCKY, I am.

And I still like it, even odd as it is.

new house 096-1
Windows gleam in the bedroom too.

JOY!

elle n mommy 009

new house 099-1
I LOVE and I repeat LOVE collecting little vintage-y purses for Elle. These are 2 of our, no, my favorites.

She doesn`t really appreciate them yet. But ONE day!

new house 100-1
50 cents bought me this one from a yard sale.

Cute, cute and more cuteness.

new house 097-1
I am obsessed with lamplight. I think it makes everything prettier.

Erika, this was the $3 shade I bought at your yard sale. Look who`s laughing now!

I don`t know why I said that. She didn`t laugh at me at all when I bought it.

new house 087-1
I love this blue and white.

Every
time Elle walks out the front door, and down the front steps, she holds
onto this plant with her little hands so she won`t fall.

And I everytime I see it, I hold my breath... and feel a little guilty for wanting to spare my plant when she is so cute.

new house 110-1
My grandma from KY divided up all her goods. I got some really cool things.

This yellow egg basket was one of them. Maybe one day I`ll show you more of what I got from her.

Both times I typed "got"-- I felt really greedy and rude. Funny how the word "got" can make you feel that way.

new house 064-1
I collect these for Elle. She likes to take her bath with them.

I guess they are more fun than the traditional, square shaped, washcloth.

new house 095-1
Laila sleeping. Just so you know we still have and love her.

new house 105-1
Natural, no sugar added, peanut butter, and a little jam on a graham cracker. Then MILK-- cold.

A right good little snack-io!

Baby crying-- I got to git! Leave me some love-- cuz here is mine to you.

I had to laugh when you were

I had to laugh when you were talking about magazines and asked what other people's favorite magazines are. My favorite magazine is Sports Illustrated; It's the only magazine that I actually read all, or most, of the articles in it. Growing up my brothers and I fought over who got the Reader's Digest first, but now it's more of a self-help magazine and doesn't have as many good stories. I also like Country Living; their photos inspire me to try to decorate at my house. But unlike you, I do not possess a vast amount of the creativity talent. I think it's really neat how God gave us all different gifts because I love to sing, but if our church was full of people like me we'd have no fun church parties (you do a great job as a hostess) and no great decorations for special events (I'd just say it's too much work). So thanks for using the gifts God gave you to minister to us.

it`s funny you bring up the

it`s funny you bring up the reader`s digest. just the other day i told glaen, "it`s odd but i think that is the one i like reading the very most?"
i think it`s because it makes me feel liked i learned new things and it has a well rounded variety of subjects.
yeah, i have a new appreciation for the variety of gifts God gave us, the older i get!
it`s crazy how the diversity of us all brings unity!
and like sam said this morn, if it wasn`t for ya`lls pep with stuff like camping-- we wouldn`t have the memories we have from playing all the games. :)

loved the post! you do have a knack for making something i would trash look so good! guess i'll hafta consult you BEFORE my next garage sale! gimme a call when you get back - seriously so bummed it did'nt work it out friday night - and what made me the most upset is it actually could've - the family thing ended up being sorta a dud.  anyhoo...talk to ya soon!

yeah, i know friday night

yeah, i know friday night was a huge bummer here too! the real crock is that we leave this next week and so it will be a long time before we get together again. oh well, the reunion will just be that much sweeter. :)
i laughed at you calling your family thing a dud. ha isn`t that so the case sometimes.
well, i better go and get ready for church. i actually want to bath elle before tonight. this morning she missed her bath and we took her to church with her hair all wild, looking like a tramp. then she wrote all over herself in church with a red marker, and her nose was runny and bleeding.
read: NOT A PRETTY SIGHT!

I must leave you a comment,

I must leave you a comment, then, since you actually read them, because I actually read-no-soak up with pleasure each creative thing that you post on here. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE stuff like this.  And now we are buying a house, and it is a virtual blank slate and all I want to do is have a huge yard sale and get rid of all my current stuff and start over, of course, I'd want to charge new price for everything so that I could have money to buy new things with.  Sometimes it's hard to make current stuff fit into new rooms, but I prly won't have the yard sale so I will have to do it somehow:-) I need you to come help me, since it looks like you are quite skilled at making something out of nothing!

this is quite funny,

this is quite funny, thelma-- since i always look at the background of your pictures (in other words, i am thorough) and think everything you do is so cool. :)
i think i feel the same way about the creative posts that you do.
i would love to help you with your new home, yes i would. and i have to say i am "green in a happy for you kinda way" over your new house. i saw pictures and it`s a dream waiting to happen! good luck! maybe i can come see it and drool one day.

Hey, I still read your blog!

Hey, I still read your blog! I like it, too. Please keep it up. :)

thank you, very kind of you

thank you, very kind of you to say it.

You never know who you have

You never know who you have inspired. I have this shelf that I had made for our room. It came unfinished bc that is what I ordered. Then I panicked. AGH. What if I mess it up?? blah blah blah. Then you posted the basket thing and I recieved the proverbial kick in the pants. Just do it. Jenny chops off handles, how hard can it be to paint a shelf.

Ahhh. The freedom that came with blissfully painting - in inperfect fashion. Now it awaits a second coat and has already been repurposed.

( It did not come quite like I wanted and the other day a friend gave me some P Graham Dunn wall words and now... the shelf has a new home. I'll post pictures when it is up.)

Seeing your collection of flowers reminds me of some stuff I saw on etsy... check out the kanzashi some day. Very cool.

ok, i see etsy stuff all

ok, i see etsy stuff all over, but what really is it? is it like fb for artists?? help me plz. :)

etsy is more like ebay for

etsy is more like ebay for artists. except it is not auction. everything is for sale. Want some vintage clothes? Cool flower pins? Anything knitted or crocheted? search for it. The possibilities are endless.

oh my. where have i been?

oh my. where have i been? sounds like paradise. :) not that i can buy... but i can look...

Jenny - I love it when you post!! I really do! And I want to see your house and walk through it and ohh and aww over everything in person! divdivAbout Etsy - I love it and know you would too - I buy way too much off there. Go check it out. divdivMiss you - Mj

This post makes me really

This post makes me really love you. Your talents, your quirks (I'm thinking the map thing here LOL), your passions, your dreams, your love for life... the way you write, it's like a window to your soul. And you're confident enough to be yourself no matter what people think (well, I guess you did let Galen pull rank in his saying no to wearing the flower pin to church, ha). Keep writing and showing us you 'trash to treasure' projects and what all. I LOVE when you post!!!!! Even if I don't always take time to comment.

thank you, you made my day.

thank you, you made my day. i smiled the whole way through your comment. i guess everyone likes to hear praise every now and again. ha!
and you are right, i am pretty odd and quirky is a nice way to say it :)

Glad to see you're alive and

Glad to see you're alive and well.  We haven't seen you guys for such a long

time and you haven't blogged for quite a while.  It's awesome when a person is able to see and understand their own gift instead of trying to be like other people.  We are all unique and special.  Loved your pictures and your projects, etc....  Hope to see you soon.

I am totally with you on the

I am totally with you on the whole spiritual gift thing. Creating things, is really a form of worship and the way God made us to be. I love remodeling/sewing
photography - all creative outlets - those things just make me feel good, but i am not a servant, or a counselor or many other good spiritual gifts. I love your ideas, they are so inspiring to me and you can just basically make something cool with nothing new, just reworking what you already have. Now that takes skill.

Thank you for this blog!

Thank you for this blog!  Very fun and inspiring.  I feel the same way about the time I spend painting.  After a new one, I alwyas feel so refreshed.  The map idea was such a good one!  Funny that Galen knew it should be a world map.  I would not have thought of it.

yea galen is shockingly

yea galen is shockingly stylish sometimes!

yes, I also enjoyed reading

yes, I also enjoyed reading your post.  I wish I had more of your creativeness in me... that's def. a gift/talent and I'm glad that you're willing to use it and in the form of worship to God too! that's awesome!  I love your house Jenny! You do very well at putting things together.  And hey, even if the map is of the US, I'm totally confident that it still looks cool! I love map looking things...

-Cindy

My sister-in-law told me

My sister-in-law told me about your blog and i really enjoy the honest, gritty humor that comes out in your writing and also the way you have an eye to see the potential in something old and turn it into something beautiful.  i love beautiful things, but beautiful things that aren't too perfect!  Southern Living is the magazine i can't live without...maybe because i live in the south and maybe because i'm in love with the big southern porches where you sit and rock in the summer heat and drink sweet tea,  although i am a yankee transplant (or a damn yankee as they say because we came south and stayed!).  country living and cottage living are great magazines, too.

It is scary how much alike

It is scary how much alike we are! Really! divdivI love Country Living too, probably wash my windows once a year, am obsessed about clean floors, love vintagey things and always have some kind of project going on. So fun!divdivBtw, I'm going to the Country Living Fair in Columbus in Sept. You should go too! :)

so weird-- somehow i didnt

so weird-- somehow i didnt see your comment until now-- so `WEIRD that you mentioned the country living fair. i just saw it in this months mag and i soooo want to go. my hus said i can but i bet we have plans that week??
would be super cool to meet you too, my twin. ha-- yeah, that is quite uncanny. maybe we experienced the exact same childhood or something...

I love magazines, too. And

I love magazines, too. And my husband has walked in on me rearranging our house many times...I totally understand how you feel. Love that you thought of God that way. = )

I would have worn the pin to church! I love it. I have one large flower pin that is not as pretty as yours, I used to wear it all the time...maybe I'll get it out again. I love pins, especially antique looking ones. I think the look pretty pinned to pillows.

Now I totally want to order a subscription to Country Living!

i am so inspired! never

i am so inspired! never thought of pinning them onto pillows...
also, if you subscribe-- country home, is even better then country living. BUT country home is more expensive, AND they are both good. :)

Jenny, don't remember how i

Jenny,

don't remember how i came across your blog in the first place.... but i love it! can't believe how alike we are - and some day when i'm all grown up and married and have cute kids i'll go to your site to see how to make my house look nice LOL the green plants all over the place are my favorite! and the purses for Elle are perfect! and i love, LOVE lamplight! right now photography is where i pour out my creativity but i do love decorating and collecting old things to make them look cool :) thanks for all the inspiration! btw, your comments on how creativity can be a spiritual gift really encouraged me! i totally agree that it can be a very fulfilling worship session! can't wait to see what ideas you will have for us next time....
